Has anyone been hospitalized for coughing up blood?

Question: Ever had a Upper Respiratory Infection, which led to coughing up blood, and need to stay in the hospital? If so, how long did you have to stay in the hospital?

Answers:
My stepfather was in the hospital for 3 days. He coughed so much that he had ruptured the tiny blood vessels in his lungs. His system was weak from chemo though, so it might not be so bad for someone more healthy.

It all depends how bad it gets, whether there are any complications etc. Most people aren't in the hospital long these days (in US) unless they're VERY sick.
