Colofac tablets? I was perscribed them the other day, they work to a certain extent with IBS but...........?

Question:
I still dont feel 100%. I still have the feeling that i need to go all the time even when i dont, is this the case with all medications??It has stopped me going 3 times a day but the feeling is still there. Is there ANYTHING I can take that will make me just feel NORMAL, when i say that I mean going around once a day having little or no pains or gas and not having the feeling that i constantly need to go.
Or will all medications only cure me to a certain extent?

Answers:
I've used these and they did zilch all. Try reading a book called 'Gut Instinct' by Pierre Pallardy. It has lots of useful tips.
i really feel for you with this, IBS can be really nasty.

Colofac pretty much sort me out unless I'm having a really bad bout.

The thing is IBS covers a range of problems and affects different people differently so i doubt there's one single solution

I know its annoying and time consuming, but have you tried working out what foods really wind you up? Starting with the obvious ones like caffeine, alcohol, dairy foods etc. and also fruit with pips in it can be bad. Try cutting them out one at a time and see if you feel any different.

I find muller vitality drinks / actimel / that danone probiotic one work for me

I have a friend who swears by aloe vera juice, although this didnt work for me.

Try and reduce the stress in your life as this is supposed to make it alot worse.

What i'm saying is, any website or doctor can give you a range of ideas to help, but you have to try them out one by one until you find what works for you
Go with the above answer re: altering your diet and stress management - there's loads of info on the web. Be aware that when it comes to bowel problems, an intial medical response is, "eat more fibre." Whilst fibre IS important in promoting gut motility, some people do find to much, or the wrong sources, can agravate their symptoms. Make a list of what you eat, look at what it contains, then try cutting out a certain foodstuff for a week and see if that makes a difference. It is a case of trail and error to a certain extent. Medications can be helpful but often they are just controling the symptoms, rather than tackling the cause of the problems.
