What to do about a fat lip?

Question:
My son is 2-1/2 and fell yesterday and got a VERY BIG fat lip from it. It bled pretty bad, but stopped quick. Then it swelled up very big and today it's still quite big. He refuses to let me put ice on it, says its "too cold". lol Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions or remedies for this besides ice, or should I just let it go away on it's own?

Answers:
having been in many fights I can tell you that it will EVENTUALLY go back to normal.

Its going to swell up a bit and turn colors. That is the brusing and scaring process. Its normal.

Really he needs to let you put a little ice on it. Cooling helps swelling go down. If he says its too cold, then wrap the ice pack in a small towel or paper towel and wet the towel so the water in the towel turns cold but is NOT as cold as the actual direct ice contact.

Time is the best remedy in this case, but the ice will help to speed it up too.
If he won't let you put ice on it, give him Popsicles!
try using ice on the area about every two to three hours
The swelling will go down on it's own so there's no need to worry but Popsicles or ice cream is a good way to "trick him" into cooling his lip down or a drink with ice in it
ICE IS THE BEST THING IN THIS CASE. SOME CHILDREN'S TYLENOL FOR THE PAIN WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TOO. HOPE THE LITTLE GUY FEELS BETTER SOON.
