How often is too often (Antibiotics)?

Question:
How many times a year can you take antibiotics without having to worry too much about antibiotic resistance? What is too much? On average how often does a person use antibiotics in 12 months?

Answers:
There is no 'on average'. Ideally, you shouldn't take them at all, but there are some circumstances where long term usage is necessary.

What I can tell you is this: First, only take antibiotics that are prescribed to you by your doctor. Second, make sure your doctor is aware of antibiotics you are currently taking and have taken recently.

If this is a frequent problem, you need to have a long talk with your physician. Or find a new one.

Good Luck!

It took it continuously for 3 years due to some kidney problem. I was 12-12 years old then
I can tell you with certainty that taking antibiotics by itself is DANGEROUS,especially when it is not an administered cure of a phisician, observed your immediate need. Therefore, there are no average,no limit, etc.Better to be avoid the intake of all types of antibiotics if possible! As to resistance,it is devepoled when the antibiotics is taken too often(I mean one),and even in other cases it is advisable to be made a spectogram of the the bacrerias etc, resistancy in a microbiotic laboratory..Please,always consult with a specialist before taking drugs, especially antibiotics..Luck!
