individual personal "change" techniques that aide in making permanent change?

real change is difficult to pull off. I am looking for successful methods that put one in a position to affect change in daily life.

Answers:
That's hard to say. Change for me comes when I am so disgusted by a certain situation. (Hate my job so much/Quit; Too much debt/Budget; can't stand a girl/Break up)

There has to be a boiling point for me to invoke change.
It also helps to imagine 5-10 years down the road and ask the question, "Will I regret not doing this now." Or, "Where will I be in 5 years if I don't get my act together and do this now"
