Can anyone tell me if a person has the right to have things removed from their medical recor?

Question:
I went to the hospital after fainting and discharged myself before being seen by a doctor as I felt better and the waiting time was so long. The hospital have sent a report to my doctor saying I was intoxicated which is completely wrong and is now causing me problems

Answers:
You have no rights to the contents of your medial records sorry you should wait to be seen the next time instead of wasting everyones time.
After now reading the whole story I feel sorry for you. What I would suggest is to access your notes to find out who wrote that about you. I would then contact a lawyer and ask them to write a letter to that person. What was written before can never be changed -its a legality that medical records can not be altered. However the member of staff concerned can write in that they were mistaken. Hope you get somewhere with this advice.

Other Answers:
Surely if you went without being seen, they can only ASSUME you were intoxicated.

There should be something that you can do. Who would have access to your medical records other than your own dr anyway?

Maybe you can write to the practice manager at your doctors & explain to them.

Good luck
Are you in the UK?

If so, you are entitled to see your medical records under the Data Protection Act (you may have to pay a fee).
First point of call is the complaints department at the hospital (they will have one).

If you are in another country, I don't know about the laws, but the complaints dept suggestion would still stand.
Complain to the hospital or your GP

They cannot diagnose your condition without seeing you!!
Angela d doesn't know what she's talking about. You DO have rights! You have the right to see exactly what has been written in your records for a start. You can obtain a copy of your records for a fee plus around 10p per sheet for copying. If you were seen during the last three months, then the fee is not payable but the charge for copying is. Get a copy and then take it further. Anyone at your doctor's surgery will tell you how to do that.

Personal experience.
Sure you have that right it's your records. But you shouldn't have left the doc, office before being seen. Or you should just let your doc, know that you were not intoxicated. And just let your doc, know your reasons for leaving the hospital.
You really were not drunk?
If you do take it further they will look at the camera behind the reception and the camera in the waiting room.I would think very hard about what you were doing in the waiting room and at the desk before you take it further.
If you are sure that you were sober and not causing a problem to other patients then take the A+E doctor to Court for deformation of character.
There's so much bollox being written here -:
Firstly, why do you want it removed from the record unless you plan to really be intoxicated and get into trouble with the law or medical authorities sometime in the future. And secondly, why is the report to your doc causing you problems unless you really are an alcoholic?
