Does it hurt to get an IV?

Question:
be really honest I wanna know the truth

Answers:
yes it does hurt if you do not get a good person to do it it will hurt. i had plenty of them and they hurt alot

Other Answers:
Not really. The initial putting in of it does, other than that it only hurts if you move it.

it doesn't hurt at all. it's just the idea of a needle in your arm or hand that's freaking you out. i know, i'm the same. i would say, don't look at it at all. try not to think about it when you're getting it. sing a song in your head, that usually drowns out all the bad thoughts It's pretty much just like getting a shot. There is some discomfort when they first go to put the needle in, and sometimes they can't get it in the vain on the first try, but usually the folks that do that are very experienced and quick.
Take a deep breath and look away and before you know it it's in!

If the person is good at putting it in it will only sting for a few seconds. Just turn your head and don't watch, that makes it easier. I've had 5 kids and so many IVs it doesn't even bother me. You'll be fine. As others have said, if the person giving you the IV knows what they're doing..it shouldn't hurt at all. Maybe just a little sting. If you're like me though, and have small veins..it hurts like hell!! I've only had one good experience when getting an IV. The nurse had over 20 years experience..I'm sure that had something to do with it. Good luck!

IV as in Intra-Venous? the dextrose?
i was in the hospital when i was 10, and i had IV therapy. well, when the put it in it feels like a needle/injection. but it didn't hurt afterwards because i think they used a plastic needle so it was flexible. i don't know what kinds they use here in the US, if they use the same plastic needle or what. try not to move your hand too much.
also tolerance to pain depends on the person. some people would tell kids not to look when they're getting their shots. i prefer to look -- it is actually less painful if i can see when the needle goes through. It doesn't feel great, but unless the person doing it does it wrong, it's not that bad.
