What can and cannot an ultrasound technician tell you? Can they schedule follow-up ultrasounds?

Question:

Mom went in for pelvic Ultrasound, tech asked if she had kidney problems and if she still has her gall bladder. Technician made appointment for 2 additional ultrasounds of kidneys and abdomen. I thought Doctors are only allowed to schedule appointments/tests

Answers:
Technicians usually develop a routine with their Doctors and they become very well versed in what "their" doctors want done.
No technician will make any judgement calls unless they know that the particular ordering doctor will expect them to do certain tests given certain circumstances.
For all you know,your mother's doctor had already ordered all of those tests but certain protocol has to be followed. Not all tests can be done at one time since certain tests require certain medicines/barrium/dyes etc.
If you are concerned by all means ask the technician about why the tests are being ordered,if your doctor ordered them or call the doctor themselves.
