I consciously black out when I get up too fast from my sleep. My eyes are open but I see black for 2-5 seconds

Question:
I feel a little light headed in addition to that. Is that a sign of some sort of hidden illness?

Answers:
The symptom is "orthostatic hypotension"...in other words the sudden change from horizontal to vertical causes a temporary sudden drop in blood pressure as your body adapts to the new position. There are many causes...some benign...some not so benign. You need to be evaluated.
Sounds like it might be low blood pressure. Nothing you can do, but get up a bit slower. Also, talk to your doctor.
