Lump on shin?

Question:
I have been doing martial arts for a few months now. In my first sparring session (before my dumb shin pads arrived) i threw a roundhouse kick, which was blocked by the knee of my opponent. my opponents knee caught my shin with rather alot of force!!!

after about 8 weeks now my shin is still bruised and painful and i have a massive lump on the bone!!!!

What is this lump? will it ever go away? is there any way of reducing it? how about the bruising - is that going to go down eventually?

i havent sparred for a couple of weeks now because i have injured my arm in a seperate incident, so i know im not just re-aggrevating my shin injury...

I used to get kicked in my shin playing soccer a lot, you probably got a bad bruise and the bone is trying to heal and it forms a thicker callous...the trainer for my team had me just use some lotion and rub it out. it hurts pretty bad to do, but it can help reduce the size of the lump...worked for me anyways. good luck. if your worried get it checked out at the doc's.
Any lump that has NOT gone away in at least a week is NOT good! i recently saw a movie (true story) of an athletic teenager who had an unknown lump in her leg. It ended up being cancer that spread and took her life at a young age. I don't mean to scare you, but just warn you. I wouldn't ignore and say 'I don't have the time'. GO GET IT CHECKED OUT, PLEASE! Let us know how that goes so you can get back into all that fun physical stuff you like to do.
