As an employer in the UK, am I allowed to ask and find out if a potential employee is on medication?

Question:
What medical records are private and what would interfere with work performance?

Tranquilizers, Prozac and such-like may or may not interfere with work performance?

Answers:
no.

you can ask about existing medical conditions if they would affect the person's ability to do the job (e.g. you have a right to know if you are hiring a truck driver who blacks out) but you can't just ask as a point of interest if it's not relevant to the role. if you ever had any reason to have a medical report from the person's doctor you would need the employee's written consent to obtain it.
No, you cannot. If you do company-wide drug screens on EVERYONE, you can screen for the illegal stuff. But the rest is none of your business.

If you have employees that are not doing their jobs, then you just have to fire them. But you cannot do it based on medically necessary medications.
What? You can't ask those questions
