what is this lump underneath my jaw?

Question:
I have a painfull lump that appeared in the bottom of my jaw this morning. The pain in in my mouth with some tenderness on my cheek. It is always there, and makes swallowing and other things that involve moving my toungue difficult. I'm also making lots of saliva which is difficult to swallow cos my tongue is swollen.
I totally intend to go to the doctors tomorrow as I think I have a fever now. Just wondered if anybody had something similar at one time, and what they had.

The things I had seen on the net are of salivary gland calculi and salivary gland tumours.

Answers:
You are not getting a diagnosis. I don't know where the "bottom" of your jaw is. If you mean at the joint just below the ear, swelling and pain here accompanied by excessive salivation can be caused by parotiditis (also called parotitis), an inflammation/infection of this large salivary gland and is essentially mumps. I saw calculus mentioned... another cause of pain and swelling and salivation. Benign tumors can also cause pain, swelling, etc.

Instead of freaking yourself out with possibilities, keep in mind that your problem is most likely minor and treatable.

As far as the person who so confidently told you "You don't have a tumor, just a virus", this is a diagnosis and this person has no idea what you have or don't have. This person has never examined you. No licensed health care professional will ever give an online diagnosis. Remember that.
lots of stuff, tonsils come to mind almost immediately.
