Eye colour?

Question:

I have brown eyes and my husband has blue, everyone in my family has brown eyes and everybody in his family has blue! So why are my sons eyes green? could it really go back as far as great, great grandparents?

it can go back even farther.everyone on my mothers side has brown eyes (as far back as we can tell in photos) and everyone on my fathers side has brown eyes (again as far back as we can tell in photos), I have brown eyes, but my sister has green eyes.the photos we have are of our great great great grandparents and their families

it could be a gene passed on by previous family members, it could also be a hidden gene either of you have. All of my family are blonde and I am the only one with dark hair!

I, myself have green eyes, and my ex-husband has dark brown eyes. We have 2 children who have ice blue eyes. My sister is the opposite, she has blue eyes, her husband has brown eyes and their daughter has green eyes. I do think it can skip several generations.

Yes, my husband has brown I have blue both of us have brown hair. Everyone in my husbands family has blue eyes and everyone in my family has blue eye. My first 2 children have brown eyes and brown hair my 3rd has blue eyes blond hair and the last Hazel eyes and brown hair.

The Hazel has to come from a great grandparent. My husbands brown eyes must come from a grandparent also.

yep - genes are funny things, it could go waaaaaay back down either family line. the chance the at your son would get green eyes was pretty minute, but i guess that goes to prove that he is one in a million !

I have HAZEL eyes.. as does my son. and all our relatives on my side. My husband has GREEN, as does all his immediate family.. BUT our daughter has ICY BLUE. just gorgeous eye colour!
We can only trace it back to my husbands grandfather.

yeh it does..thats the same in my family.my great great grandfather had green eyes and thats possibly where i got mine from!

Geneology is a fun and great hobby to get into. Genes are passed on from every blood related relative, and as in your case with both sides only having one colour, often grandparents genes are more visible and likely to show up. Amazing isnt it. But rest assured is not a mix from you being brown and your husband blue, it was at least once apparent in either side!

It's all to do with genetics. Depending on what combination of genes you each pass on to your children depends on what eye colour they have.

The colouring is determined by more than one gene, so many different combinations can occur, even years down the family line.

It can because no one of my above generation has light eyes yet i have green eyes, and this was because of my grandparents. So the gene can skip a few generations.

Genetics are almost inexplicable to me. All of my family on both sides have blue eyes. All of my husbands family have blue eyes except him and his mother and her parents, who had brown eyes. My first and third children have blue eyes, my second and fourth children have brown.

yes, your children dont always have the same colour of eyes as there parents
