someone on this once said drowning was peaceful, how do they know?

Funny you should ask that question. In high school, I had a swim teacher who went under and was resuscitated. He said your exact words. He stated that it was actually "peaceful". He stated that once he was tired of "fighting the water" and struggling to stay afloat, he began to get very sleepy and relaxed. He stated that he became unaware of where he was and went into what he thought was the deepest stage of sleep and relaxation he had ever felt. He stated that he later felt pain in his chest (from the resuscitation) and felt he was coming back out of a deep sleep or relaxation. He joked that he was happy to be back, because he did not see a bright light at the end of a tunnel!

I've heard that before as well, though as you say how you can pass on this information after drowning I don't know. Only thing I can think of is that someone who has effectively "drowned" and then been resuscitated found it to be a peaceful experience.
Whatever the case, I wont be experimenting myself to find out! (And would recommend that you don't either).
i would choose getting eat alive by one grass hopper and one wasp
