Lung aspiration .......?
Question:
Answers:
Wow - I've never had it done myself, but I have done lung aspirations on other people who have had fluid accumulate in their lungs.
The actual procedure doesn't take very long - it's about 10 mins or so maybe longer with a bit of messing around with getting a drip set up, doing the consent paperwork, cleaning the area and doing it sterile, putting in the local anaesthetic and inserting the tube.
THEN how long it all takes for you to get out of hospital depends a bit on what they plan to do.
With some people - they are connected to a bottle and have to stay in hospital while things are draining.
With other people - they are x-rayed and maybe have to wait some hours (4-6 hours) and get a repeat x-ray etc.
With yet another group of people, they can be discharged with some form of collection bag dangling from the tube, tucked under your clothing.
Other people - usually with small pneumothorax (that's air - not fluid) can even be discharged very quickly and come back the next day for a repeat x-ray.
Talk with your doctors and ask them what to expect.
