my son was just perscribed cymbalta. he was in a wreck and has to have neck surgery.why was he given cymbalta?
Question:
Answers:
Your son has been through enough events to perhaps have symptoms of situational depression. Studies have shown that cymbalta also helps with chronic pain. He may be one of those people treated with cymbalta for a few months and then discontinued under a physician's direction. Personally, I would give it a try knowing it may help him in such a difficult time. Cymbalta has helped my fibromyalgia. Now I can walk easier and do activities of daily living. It does treat pain. Good luck
Other Answers:
Cymbalt is a neurotransmitter. It bascially blocks the pain message to the nerves. Another good one is Neurontin which is avaliable in generic which might be a little cheaper on the pocket book. Some great places to check out for more info is Walgreens.com or wemd both good resources.
FOR DEPRESSION. Cymbalta is also used to treat pain..especially in diabetics with diabetic neuropathy. I was given this drug to relieve pain in my back due to a bulging disc and degenerative disc disease and it helped for awhile until they increased the dosage. Then my throat felt like it was closing up and I had to stop taking it.
It also treats depression..so maybe the doctor thought he could help your son out in a number of ways with this drug.
