how to get a dr. note without seeing a doctor?

I dont think so, but it depends on the earphones. The Ipods phones go inside your ear, closer to the earlobe and that can cause more hearing loss. Stick with the old ones.

What to say to a doctor that thinks you're faking pain?

I actually watched a show about a month ago that was studying this.they said that you should turn the volume down ( like you are already) and give your ears a break every so often. They also said that it doesn't cause permanent hearing loss..only temporary. You are more likely to have hearing loss from going into a club with a live band for 30 minutes than you are listening to your Ipod at a normal level for 2-3 hours.

appendix are hurting?

I just did an extensive amount of research on this area for a project in grad school. The reason iPods are blamed is because of the ear buds they come with. These are closer to the ear drum and seal off outside noise, so they do more damage than the larger, cushioned headphones we used to use.

At full volume, it takes less than one hour for ear buds to cause permanent hearing loss.

At 60% volume, it takes 1-2 hours to cause permanent hearing loss.

You are safe listening to your ear buds at 50% volume or lower for UP TO 45 minutes per day. Anything more, and you are likely causing permanent damage every time.

Consider switching back to the old style headphones to be extra safe.

A simple Google search will reveal the dozens of studies done on this topic, as well as a plethora of lawsuits by people with hearing loss, suing Apple and similar companies.

We are the first generation faced with this problem, largely because of the ear buds and the popularity of personal MP3 players, so don't make the mistake of thinking "It hasn't happened before, so it won't happen to me."

what have u done today?

YOU ARE CORRECT . ANY ORGAN OF YOUR BODY IS OVER USED THAN NORMAL IT AFFECTS ITS POWER IN THE LONGER RUN. NEED NOT BE IMMEDIATELY.IF YOU STRAIN YOUR EYES TOO MUCH THE SAME IS THE EFFECT.SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL. THEN IF YOU ARE STAYING NEAR THE AIRPORT IN THE LONG RUN YOU LOOSE YOUR HEARING POWER.I F YOU ARE WORKING IN A WEAVING FACTORY WHERE IN THERE ARE 1000 POWER LOOMS , HERE ALSO YOU LOOSE YOUR HEARING POWER. THIS IS ALSO CALLED OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE.SIMILARLY IF A MAN EXPOSES TO THE DUST ATMOSPHERE LIKE A TEXTILE MILL HE DEVELOPS BREATHING TROUBLE ETC. SO IF YOU ARE NOT LIMITING YOUR ACTIVITIES OF USING YOUR ORGANS PROPERLY THEN YOU LOOSE THE POWER IN LONG RUN.

Researchers are predicting that the popularity of iPods will cause a generation of adults to live with hearing loss.

Even worse, exposure to long periods of loud music can result in tinnitus. A condition which results in a continuous tone which varies from mildly annoying, to suicide-inducing.

The average iPod user can listen to music at 100dB. Most US states, Canada and the UK restricts employees from working unprotected from industrial noise at these levels.

The fact it is music doesn't detract from the fact that any noise at these levels is damaging. It's too late once the damage is done. It's difficult to determine what is temporary or permanent damage. Two hours use of an iPod may cause a temporary hearing loss. But what if you use your iPod day in, day out for two years? Eventually the temporary hearing shift doesn't bounce back to normal.

As an audiologist, it's bad enough telling people that they've lost their hearing due to the work they've done, their genes, due to illness.

I know eventually I'm going to be telling people that they're losing their hearing due to iPods.

How much medication does an adult patient receive for a flu shot?

If you listen to your IPod at normal levels it will not cause any hearing loss. Hearing loss can be caused by sounds over 85dB with exposure time of 8 hours. The louder the sound the less time it takes to cause permanent hearing loss. As a general rule of thumb, if sound is loud enough that you have to yell over it to be heard, it is loud enough to cause hearing loss.

So, listen to your music at normal levels and enjoy your music and your hearing!
