Does anyone know how to stop never ending feet pain from standing too long? (Hurts when sitting too)?

Question:
Ever since a trip to Las Vegas two years ago, my feet have not stopped hurting. I walked around the city longer than I should've, and I think it just ruined my feet completely. If I'm standing for any longer 5 minutes, my feet start aching. When I sit down, the pain will lessen, but will not go away. Even after sleeping for 7-9 hours I can still feel it, just not as much. I've been to a couple doctors, each with their own names for what my problem could be. A foot store managed to sell $400 of foot support to me, which hardly did anything. I have high arches, wich is what all the doctors agree are causing the pain. But no matter what, after the support, massages, soaking, resting..It still.Hurts.LIKE HELL. It kills me when I'm at work standing all day. Heck, it kills just to stand in line at the store.

Medicines..Don't seem to reach my feet. I've taken a few different pain killers, and it doesn't touch the pain.

Any ideas on how to stop the pain?

Answers:
What sort of diagnosis did the doctors give you? Can you describe the pain, i.e. is it more of a burning? Have you been to see a neurologist? Have you been to a physical therapist?

Unsure if you have peripheral neuopathy or arthritis, maybe something else?

Regardless, you may want to find a physical therapist who uses the Anodyne or Revitamed infrared therapy. Check out their websites as I think they have a list of therapists who use this equipment. This may help to relieve your symptoms, but you need an explanation for the cause of the pain - I am unsure of what is causing it.

Did the doctors try taping your foot for support?

Good luck!

In response to your answers:

If it is plantar fasciitis: this sounds a probable diagnosis. Physical therapy can help with this. We can use techniques, such as taping, ultrasound, etc. to help stretch out the area. Plantar fasciitis can originate in the calf muscle because it is too tight. You need to stretch out your calf! Easiest way is by standing on a step and droping your heels off the edge. I know one orthopedist who recommends holding the stretch for 10 minutes - quite painful to do but it can help.

Try doing the following: fill an old soda bottle with water and freeze it. Then, for about 10 minutes three times a day, take it out and roll your bare foot on it. You can do this after the step stretch as it will help to calm down any inflammation.

You can also try a product called 'The Strassburg Sock' - specifically designed for plantar fasciitis and I have seen it work well with some patients. Available over the counter and I think they have a website.

Get a desk job. And put your feet up as much as you can.

You've already done everything a reasonable person can do and everything anyone here could recommend. I'm left with nothing more to offer than sympathy for your painful situation, and say that hell I don't know. I wish I had an answer to the pain because my feet are painful, too. I tried wearing MBT sneakers and they have actually helped tremendously. They're expensive, but well worth it. They're very cushioned and it's like walking on clouds. They help correct your gait, too, and that relieves the pressure that causes some of the pain. Ask the store that sold you the arch supports to adjust them so they help you more. Good luck! I hope your pain eases soon.
