How did people live back in the days before toilet, nor any hygiene tools were invented?

Question: People used the restroom through rivers and probably wiped with leaves or just leave the residue on them. They probably drank a certain liquid to keep their teeth clean or their teeth were horrible. Taking showers in the middle of the lake or when there's no water around, just stink as usual.

Answers:
We had what was called an "outhouse'. it was basically a hole dug deep into the ground with a wooden shed over it. There was a bench inside with a hole cut into it. when you went to the bathroom, everything fell into this hole. when the hole was getting full, another hole was dug, the outhouse was moved, and the first hole was filled with dirt.
And boy did it stink. This was the time when I learned to breathe through my mouth.

They were soooooooo nasty, back in the day the castles had such big rooms and so many of them, because they used a corner as a toilet, once the stench was too much they would move to another room.
Also they did not showered much, or at all, have you seen in the movies they used white powder on their skin, they did that to cover spots of dirt. Those elaborate hair dos stayed on for months, they used sticks to scratch their head, and used ribbons to keep lice from walking down their faces. there's places around the world that they don't have enough money to afford bathrooms like the one we have here.just think in people that live in Africa that they don't care about a bathroom, they just care about food.they use their land as bathroom and instead of toilet paper they use leaves. they take showers in the rivers and they don't stink
