if the baby below 1 year old has a fever why doctor prescribe a soppusitory?
Question:
Answers:
suppositories are designed to dissolve quickly and they enter directly into the bloodstream. the rectum has a rich blood supply, so the medication will be quickly absorbed and transported throughout the body to help reduce the fever.
babies tend to vomit or spit out things they don't like-medicine is usually number one on the list. if your baby were to spit out the medicine or vomit it-he/she wouldn't get the amount necessary to reduce the fever adequately. and vomiting puts the baby at risk for aspirating (breathing in) the medication into his/her lungs which could cause other medical problems....
Forget the suppository and just give the baby some infant Tylenol. That doc is a moron. I'd find a new one.
