Hyperextension or sprain?

Question:
I was rough housing with a friend of mine and he ducked at the last second, causing me to punch the wall pannel rather than him. I know that I managed to tuck my ring finger on my right hand into my palm, causing it to bend the top joint further outward than usual. Now it hurts to touch it or move it, but not bad enough to keep me from typing (obviously). Is this a sprain, hyperextension, or is it really nothing to worry about?

Note: It's not swelling. From what I can tell, it's the same size and shape it's always been.

Thank you!

Answers:
if it went to much in the wrong way then its a hyperextention
if it didnt theres probablly nothing wrong with it and its just sore

Other Answers:
dont know but you should go to the dr. if you are in pain

The top joint of your finger has many tiny ligaments in the shapes of crosses and x's that run over the tendon of your digitorum longus and brevis. when you hyper-extend your most distal phalynx of tat finger, it puts extra strain on those tiny tendons. Your pain should slowly dissipate over the next 2 weeks, but may not completely go away for over 3 months. Sorry for the bad news.
