From what symptoms does a doctor determine a person needs a colonoscopy when they are just in their 20s??

Occult(hidden blood that can be recognized by a test, but cannot be seen as blood) blood gets colonoscopy to discern where it is coming from. also frequent constipation, or altered bowel habits, decreased blood hgb levels, vomiting undigested food frequently, abdominal distention, 3rd spacing(fluid build up in your arms or legs), sudden weight gain,.. ask the doc who asked for it, he will tell you. if it doesn't seem reasonable, get a second opinion..

Usually when the patient ends up having a substantial amount of frank blood in the stool it self or even old blood in the stool, accompanied by an unexplained loss of weight. Another one would be severe abdominal pain but with a negative ct scan of the abdomen.
