Regarding blood pressure:It varies ALL the time. Yesterday it was fine, today it was HIGH..how come?

Question:
Ok here is the thing..I am a 23 year old overweight female. I have been bad about exercising and have had hoooorrriiibbllee eating habits. I got on some meds a few wks ago and i went to check my blood pressure and it was REAL bad. But my mother in law said its cause those BP machines at places like Walmart are not right and if my arm is too fat for it then it dont work correctly. I have been working out and eating better the last 3 weeks. Shouldnt this help the blood pressure come down? It was like 135/95 tonight. Thats pretty high. But i also have BAD anxiety, so I might just be getting to anxious when i take my blood pressure. Anyone ever experiance that? I sometimes think i am just imagining things!!!

Answers:
OK...you and your mom are right! Those machines are inaccurate and if your arm is larger, they can be way off. You need to stop salty foods and sodas to lessen your intake of salt, which makes you hold fluids, which makes your heart pump harder. Then you should be drinking at least 8 cups of water a day; to get out the excess fluids. If you're exercising that helps. If you have anxiety, that can elevate your pressure. It can be different sitting or standing. So....why don't you get on a good moderate diet with moderate exercise (30 min. a day) and watch the salt and NO JUNK. Drink lots of fluids and that pressure will come down sooner than you realize. Go to a nurse/doctors office to have it taken with a big cuff...request a big cuff. If you just lose 10 lbs, that will help your pressure. Please help and love yourself. You will be so glad you did. Good Luck, honey.

okaaaaaaaaaay.... try exercising regularly and eating right.
u might want 2 go to the doctor and check it out
he will tell u
Well the most important point to keep in mind, is that you can take your blood pressure and take it again 2 minutes later and it will be different. Regardless of if you've moved or anything else. If you are truly concerned about it, document it a few times, for a week or two and take the date/time/bp readings to your dr at your next visit. He/she will be able to better advise you.
The machines at Walmart and other pharmacies are not accurate. You could take your blood pressure three times in a row and get a different reading each time.

How much caffeine do you drink? Caffeine sends my blood pressure and pulse soaring. As long as I don't drink anything with caffeine in it (including some meds), I don't have a problem.
you could have the beging of high blood pressure, and if there are moments more stressful your blood pressure will also rise, keep getting checked by your physcian until they come to some conclusion.

good luck in your weight loss and excercise program and don't give up you will come to a point you wont notice any weight loss but belive me it will take off again but please eat correctly.
have you been eating alot of salt? if so cut it down. also your anxiety can bring your blood pressure up if you worry about it too much. your numbers aren't terribly high. You just have to watch the lower #. You should have regular visits with your Dr. and he can adjust your meds to keep you on track.
Why hasn't your doctor prescribed you to talk with a at the hospital..
Get your diet under control, and begin exercising.. even if it's only walking around the block.. Avoid all salts if possible.. try to eat fresh foods, or frozen.. Drink tap water or bottled pure waters - no salts added, or sugars..
Someone told me that they had taken garlic pills, and their blood pressure came down and stayed down..
Mine went up the other week, so I am keeping a daily journal for myself.. and am doing pretty much what I suggested for you to try. <smiles> I'm also diabetic..
Here's to us kiddo.. <winks> Good luck.
Blood pressure varies all the time for everyone. Today, you could be walking more, the temperature different, how much water you drank and stress levels. Anxiety is also a major player on BP.
All kinds of things change it on its own. The machines are not considered highly accurate and you best guess at your heart rate and BP is to take it and wait 2 minutes before taking it again. Check it 2 minutes later and see how much of a variaiton you see in 3 readings.
too much salt in your diet will cause hb pressure. Also too much food will do it too.but mostly it runs in a family.just walk daily doesn't call for exercising just daily walks for 1 mile will help you .good luck.my husband has it and the doctor also has him on hb pressure drugs.
