I broke my elbow in 85 and have to plates on my humerus whats the benifits of removal of plates?
Question:
Answers:
well, that they are gone of course. it is probably not a good thing removing them now cause the plate might be (partially) covered with tissue, bone,. .
so this would mean a lot of damage to your humerus + the surrounding tissue. go to your local doctor and ask, but i dont think that they'll take it out after 21 years.
good luck
Other Answers:
get a doc's opinion on your pain. Could be soft tissue unrelated to the implants. the only benefit in removing plates/pins is to stop some symptom. You risk further nerve damage etc by doing the removal as well as the healing time
We went to see my husbands Ortho after he was having knee pain where he had screws in his knee. With X-rays they saw they were fine. The Dr said they are very hard to remove and they most likely will never loosen
