Does Central Heating cause dehydration, and what can I do to prevent it?

Question:
Besides drinking gallons of water which I already do. Every morning I wake up with a headache, stuffy nose, scratchy throat. I have darker circles under my eyes, and my back often hurts. Once I am able to turn the heat back ( I live with someone who is always cold) I feel fine. Any suggestions?

Answers:
If your central heat is electric it really can dry the air a lot. Central heat that uses natural gas will add moisture to the air. But if you are uncomfortable, try simmering water on your stove while you are home to add moisture to the air. You can add sliced oranges or lemons, cloves, and cinnamon sticks to the pot for added comfort. Just be sure to keep an eye on the pot and add water as needed to keep the potpourri from burning. If you think it makes a difference then you might want to consider buying a humidifier.
Buy a humidifier. Go to a drugstore - they should have a decent variety and the low-end humidifiers are not expensive.

Once the heat is on for the Winter everything starts drying out. My dogs drink more water, my plants get watered more frequently, etc.

You may also have allergies - your throat issues could be from draining sinuses (as I write this my throat is doing the same).
I believe it does.I get nosebleeds on the regular from it. Depending on your situation you can use vaseline for your nose lol, or try what the guy above me said.
Shop around for a humidifier for yourself.
i think a heating is a heating. central heating usage has the effect that a house or apartment can constantly be on the same temperature.
central heat will remove the moisture from the air and cause the symptoms you describe. a humidifier would help alleviate the problem..or something as simple as a pot of water on the stove turned down quite low will put some moisture back in the air, but do not leave it on at night.too dangerous!
Get a cool mist humidifier from your local retail store.you can get a nice one for around $30 that will last you years with proper care. I also suggest buying a glass counter protector from the housewares department to put it on while you run it. It will protect your furniture. (I use one when ever I use my crock pot as well). You can find those at any retail store and I have seen them at home improvement stores as well. I got mine at Walmart. Turn it on 15-20 minutes before you go to your bedroom for the night and get a good nights sleep!
