how much compensation should i expect for ligament and a back injury when knocked off my motorcycle by a car?

Question:
I was knocked off my motorcycle in August 2004. The other party admitted liability. I still have back painI have the all clear for my knee joint but suffered ligament damage to my left knee. I cannot knee properly due to a sharp pain. I am waiting on physio from the hosptial. I still get twinges of pain in the knee. I tore both thumbs back, they are more or less ok but still weak. I still have intermittent back pain worst in the mornings.

You have everything to lose if you get too anxious. Insurance companies want to settle this as quick as possible and will tell you anything to make you settle. DO NOT SETTLE QUICKLY!
I had a injury and the first offer from the insurance was $20,000 and they pressured me to settle saying things like "this sounds fair does it not" do not respond to this kind of question. Also insurance companies are known to tape phone conversations so beware of what you tell them. Time is on your side, wait until you had physio and things, see what permanent injuries you have and you will have them (back problems in the future are rough and the issue with your thumbs will probably give you bad arthritis when you are older), see a lawyer, never give the insurance company a number except if they push you make it big somewhere in the half million or more. Don't let them push you around do a lot of research and get your self familiar with other similar injuries. They will settle at a higher figure. By the way I settled for 84,000 much better than 20,000 and I never went through a lawyer. I did see one as an initial consultation that was Free of charge.

Hope this helps.

It depends on how much you spent in lawyers fees, the cost of surgerys, the cost of living for the time you were un-employed, and also all of the headache it's caused you dealing with this mess..probably thousands! The longer your pain and suffering are, the more cake you'll get. The more expensive your doctor bills are, the more money you'll get. The more life threatening or life changing the injuries are the more you'll get.

A back injury? You could have a lifetime of problems from that. So I recommend getting an attourny and letting them handle it. Sure it will cost you more but you'll get more in return. Do not call the cheezy guys you see on TV, look on the internet for referrals.

My husband broke his sternum in two places and his leg in an accident, the other guy admitted total liability but he only got £1500 and even now 5 yrs later he still has trouble and can't pick up anything heavy. 5-10K

Hire an injury attorney. If you handle it yourself you will be compensated for damage to your bike, plus X3 of your medical expenses. If you settle without an attorney you could be screwing yourself considering all the pain you are still suffering. I'd sue for all the pain and suffering, and still don't settle until you are sure that all of your medical problems have been addressed in-case you need surgery..

sue for what you think is the value of whats been takin from you
