Should I get a 3rd opinion?

Question:
I've been to the eye doctor up get lasik, or PRK, and he found that both my retinas have detached but I can still see they are only partially detached and he referred me to another doctor and he found the same thing. The second doctor said I need to have surgery ASAP, should I get any more opinions or go with the 2 doctors diagnoses, and I have had no symptoms of this. Help.

Answers:
If you are feeling uncomfortable, it's always fine to get a third opinion. Possibly don't tell the third doctor your previous diagnosis until they have already checked you and told you what they found. that way they are looking at it 'fresh' and not just looking for what you told them someone else already found. If they, too, say this, then I would suggest following their advice. I think it's smart to get different opinions when considering some major medical stuff, though.

Other Answers:
If two different doctors gave you the same diagnosis, I'd believe them. What if you go to a third doctor and get the same diagnosis? Will you believe them, or want a 4th opinion?
With 2 doctors confirming the same medical condition - the odds are high that this is the case. With retinal detachments - a B-scan will actually show you the retinal detachment - so they can show this to you. Also - a photograph might also show you the detachment.
Of course -retinal detachments need to be fixed in a timely manner - as the longer the delay in treatment, the less successful the surgery.

I hope this helps
