Does anyone have good advice regarding treatment for tinitus?

Question:
Have been suffering for years and was advised by Consultant to put off using any noise buffer as long as possible.

Answers:
I've had tinnitus since 1994 when I had a head injury.

The first three years were pretty bad, but as time passed it lessened.

It never completely goes away, but you learn to live with it.

Some days it is worse, usually when stress affects me, others, it is much milder, as now, just whistling in the background of my mind.

I never have and never will use anything, nor take medication for it, since I believe this makes it worse.

Listen to music, listen to talk radio, concentrate on everything around you more than you concentrate on the tinnitus, it does get easier to cope with then.

The more you try to solve it, worry about it, concentrate on it, it gets louder.

That's the way I deal with it, the way I deal with everything that worries me, including painful arthritis in my hands.

One other thing, try not to scrunch your neck, in chairs, in bed, and remember that on some days, a few pillows will help, while other days it is better without any. But one thing I soon realised was that pressure on the neck nerves and veins, whilst hunching shoulders and twisting your neck, even subconsciously whilst resting, makes it much, much worse.

So, stretch your neck by holding your posture upright, as you sit and walk, and whilst lying down. Consciously keep it straight, and after a few weeks of training yourself to do this, you may find much relief.

If you catch yourself hunched over the computer, do get a straight backed chair, as I did (threw out my swivel chair) and keep your shoulders back and down, whilst lifting your chin slightly, you'll feel the benefit within half an hour.

Good luck friend.

My father-in-law suffers with it. The only solution he has been offered is severing the nerves to make him completely deaf. Not much of an option.

yes,,,,warm olive oil xtra virgin, drop 2 drops in affected ears and block with a cotton wool. leave overnight when sleeping. in morning it should help.

but ensure oil reaches far down earal tract to bathe eardrum and coat it to lubricate to aid good gentle resonance of anvil.
