how long do i have to be sick, before i should bother the ER? i don't have a private doctor?

are there any acute care/intermediate care centers in your town?
that you can go too they are equipped to handle this type of sickness. if you have had it for two weeks i would suggest you get to one as you may be coming down with bronchitis etc. they can xray your chest and prescribe meds plus they take most all the different types of insurances out there and probally suggest a good doctor you can hook up with.

Most colds last only a week, however if your cold lasts more than two weeks, you should see a doctor. You could have a bronchial infection or worse.

If you think it's really bad then go to the ER...(I hope your not goofing and talking about the tv show!).....Once you go to the ER you will probably get yourself a a regular doctor and that's probably what you need. go ahead and go unless you can find a md who will give you an initial appointment in the next day or so. some may wonder if it has been on-going why you chose er at this point, others may wonder why you waited. the only truly annoying ones are if you go in for a single bout of diarrhea or vomiting or some such or are obviously drug-seeking. but also find yourself a personal physician for the future...i know it can be a wait to get the initial appointment, so if think you can't get into one soon, head on over to er.
