If you break your shin bone would you have a cast that bends at the knee or all the way up?

Question:
Say you broke your tibia, would you have a cast that goes all the way up your leg or bends at the knee so you could sit in a chair?

Answers:
It depends on the break, but in order to effectively stabilize a bone you generally have to stabilize the joint above and below the break.

Other Answers:
No. I broke my tib, fib and shattered my ankle three years ago. In surgery for 4 hours getting it all put back together. I now have a nice Titanium plate in my leg as well as bolts that hold my ankle together. I was out of commission for like 4 months and then another 6 months of rehab but the cast I had was removable and was able to take it off at night as well as when I took what you might say was a shower. My leg, and ankle are messed up for good, but my cast was from my foot to just below my knee.

Depends on where on the tibia thebreak actually is and what type of fracture (stress fractures are very often fully casted becaus ef the possibility it could lead to a spiral fracture if further stressed). Low tibial fractures are usually a walking cast these days. usually it will be a cast that goes past your knee. to imobilize the joint above the break
