what are the functions of the Evacuated Collection Tubes?
Question:
Answers:
They are used to collect blood samples. The tubes have a negative pressure inside of them and are used in conjunction with a special double sided needle. One side is long and goes into the vein, the other is shorter and is capped with a rubber sleeve. The needle is screwed into a barrel adapter and inserted into a vein. The rubber sleeve keeps the blood from flowing out of the short end. Then the Evacuated Tube is inserted into the adapter and the rubber stopper is pushed onto the short needle. This pushes the rubber sleeve down exposing the the sharp end and the needle pierces the tubes stopper. The blood is then drawn into the tube by the negative pressure. When that tube is filled, it is removed and the rubber sleeve retracts to again cover the short needle. Another tube can then be inserted and filled. This can be repeated as many times an needed with no blood spill in between tubes.
