Sprained ankle! Find out more clicks on this PLEASE! Its an emergency?
Question:
Answers:
I would follow the coaches' orders and take it easy. If you are playing on it and as you said "competitively" then of course it's still swollen. You need to lay off it untill it heals. This can compound a minor injury into something worse.
Other Answers:
I would stop playing for one.
Put a ankle wrap on it purchased from a drug store etc.
Soak it in Epsom salt
But ice packs on for 10 minutes every couple of hours.
Take advil 3 of them 2x's a day to reduce inflammation.. well,, don't take 3 go by the bottle or age requirements, but that is what the Dr. told me.
Stay off of it for 3 days completely~
i sprained my ankle once and the swelling was there for a long time. I guess that ankles just swell for long periods of time to be sure just go to the doc and get an xray
Go back to the doctor right away! You never know, it could have gotten worse over time. I sprained my ankle just a month ago and its fully healed because I went to the doctor and they gave me an air cast (its basically a brace). it helps a lot, you should ice the ankle a lot too. Good luck!
Swelling is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. If you do not stop playing, you will not give your body the chance to heal. Please listen to your mother and your doctors. Take care of your body.go see a doctor who is specialized in sports medicene and take their advice.
Good luck!
Listen to your coach. reinjuring it is making it worse and stopping it from getting better. You are fortunate to have a coach with a working head on his shoulders.
Go back to the doctor or to another one. After this time, it should be better. The brace you have, is it one that has elastic in to compress the swelling?
i suggest to wrap it up with tape before evry game.. some people heal fast and some don't heal as fast
i had ankle sprain months ago took me about 6 wks to fully heal..
Yes, you should stop playing netball and baby it. You should probably go back to the dr., too, as you might have reinjured it. And you can say they need you really bad, but if you mess it up so much you can't use it anymore, or have to have an operation, well, they will be doing without you for a lot longer. And here is a life lesson for you. Nobody is irreplaceable.
This is going to sound weird, but I promise that it works. My dad was an old cattle hand and there was a trick they would use on their horses when they would injure their legs. Then they discovered it worked just as well as people. Here is what you do. You need to have a parent buy you a package of chewing tobacco. Just get the cheapest kind, brand doesn't matter-any tobacco will do. Take the tobacco and mix it with a small amount of water to make a paste. Put the tobacco paste on the affected area then wrap with gauze. Then wrap over that with an ACE bandage. Do this at night, sleep with it all night. In the morning your swelling will be gone and it won't hurt nearly as much. I swear this works. When I was in my first year of college I slipped on some stairs and hurt my ankle REALLY bad. It was swollen about 4x its normal size. I couldn't put any weight on it at all. I did all the things the doctor said-rest, ice, compression, elevation, and it wasn't getting much better. My dad mailed me a pouch of tobacco with instructions on what to do. I did it and the next day the swelling was almost completely gone and I was able to bear weight on it. I know it sounds crazy, but it works-FAST
I would stop playing, and stay off of your ankle as much as possible. Apply ice to your ankle for 20 minutes then take it off for 20 minutes, and just keep doing that. Keep it elevated to. If you don't see any difference after a few days go back to the doctor. There's always a chance that you have injuried it worse.
Take at least a day off from playing or standing or walking. Apply ice packs for 20 minutes then wait 20 minutes and apply again. Keep foot elevated and soak in warm water when needed. To reduce swelling keep elevated! If going to take any advil take the maximum of 2 pills every 6 hours no more than that. Advil thins the blood and can eat the lining of your stomach. Tylenol is ok, but not always works the same. You can try Aleve .That works for 12 hours taking one pill.

For one, stop playing on it for a few days. Get a large storage bag, and fill is about 1/2 with ice (crushed if you have it) and suck the air out of the bag before sealing. Put the ice bag around the swollen area and wrap on with an ace bandage fairly tight. Elevate your ankle above your heart. (Lay on the couch w/ ankle on the arm of the couch, or lay on the floor with the ankle on a chair etc.) Have someone loosen the ace bandage about every 1/2 minutes, and leave it loose for about 30 seconds, then wrap back tightly.Do this for about 15 min. 2-3 times a day for at least 2 days. I would also suggest taking an anti-inflammatory..(ibuprofen, advil, etc) I hope this helps!
