my friend and I were at wal-mart and this guy grabed her arm.?

Question:
and when he grabed her arm I took out my knife and cut him across the ribs and her and I ran how should I know if I will be arrested or not because I have been arrested for less.

Answers:
In my state, you used excessive force to stop the threat. therefore you became the aggressor and are guilty of felony battery. A knife is a weapon of deadly force and the male was only using hand control measures.
My advice is two-fold: pray that senor bada** conveniently forgets who attacked him and if that fails, get a good lawyer, and if offered a plea agreement, take it.

Of course, I am applying Wisconsin Criminal law here, and am unaware of the intents of the parties. Your situation may be altered by your and the perpetrator's intent and your state's criminal statutes.

In the future, recall that most states only allow you to use an equal amount of force to protect yourself or someone who cannot protect themselves from an unlawful threat to their wellbeing: empty-hand vs. empty hand, impact weapon vs. impact weapon, deadly force vs. deadly force.

I encourage you to seek out, read, and understand your state's statutes regarding self-defense

Other Answers:
self deffence. Say you were in danger of your life.
Wow, what is with the knife? Going into a store WITH a knife is trouble enough. Using it on someone else, that is a quick trip down a road to an arrest.

Eventually you will get caught. Turn in yourself in first. Police and judges give lesser punishment to people that turn themselves in vs people who run.
self defense is what your lawer would say. You thaught you and your friend "were" indanger. However the fact of having that nife on you may cause a problem. Get a good lawer if the law ends up finding out about this. If the guy that grabbed her arm reported it than there is a risk but if not than don't worry.
Don't worry. Make sure you state that it was an act of self-defense and that you're friend was in danger of her lfe.

It's surprising how much us women need to go through and put up with when our lives are in danger. Thank goodness it was that easy. It could have been worse.
Self defense? Yeah, right. From the sound of this, all we know is that you were looking for trouble and perhaps even provoked the guy just so you could use your knife.

I guess if you have enough money, you can pretty much buy your way out of it with a good lawyer. Your best option is to go down to the police station (with your knife) and turn yourself in.

Make sure they know that you're a badass and wasn't going to take any **** off of anyone. Hand them your knife (hopefully, you haven't cleaned it off) and let them get some DNA off of it.

Next, make a statement and be sure to include everything that REALLY happened and then wait for your court date. Be sure to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

I could be wrong about you, but you say you've been arrested before? For what? Hmmm..
