Why does my tail bone hurt?

Question:
My tail bones hurts like hell, I didn't fall or hurt it in any way. I think the cause of it might be me sitting down for hours on end and taking tests. I went to my doctor and I got x-rays, they found nothing so I was told to ice it. It isn't working that well, just makes my butt cold. When I stand up I hurts sometimes, when I sit down in a chair my tail bone feel uncomfortable, and when I sneeze it hurts alot. What is wrong?

Answers:
I may be way off base with this, but I had a friend who had a similar problem. They got the problem when they started lifting heavy weight. One time (and there wasn't any pain during the incident), they lifted something and it tore the tissue in their tail bone. Same symptoms, when they sneezed, sat, or sqautted down and picked things up, it hurt them. It's something to look into, at least.

stop with teh computer and go for a walk each day.
Mine tends to hurt when I sit on my butt too long. But then again, I have chronic issues from being in a Ford Aspire that got hit by a semi like 6 years ago.

Um.try a chiropractor if your insurance covers it. It could also be something like Fiber Myalgia. You might want to run that by your doc the next time you visit. I hear that's often an overlooked thing.
I suggest a heating pad.

Here are some simple things that you can do to help ease/deter pain:
-Avoid sitting down for long periods of time. When seated, sit on hard surfaces and alternate sitting on each side of the buttocks. Also, lean forward and direct your weight away from the tailbone.

-For traumatic injuries, apply ice to the tailbone area for 15-20 minutes, 4 times a day, for the first few days after the injury.

-Use ibuprofen (Advil), or a similar pain medicine, as directed on the label for pain control. DO NOT EXCEED 2400 mg/per 24 hrs.

-You can purchase a "doughnut" cushion or pillow to sit on. This cushion has a hole in the middle of it to prevent the tailbone from contacting the flat surface.

-Eat foods high in fiber to soften stools and avoid constipation .
I had the same problem went to doctors got an xray and nothing. I figured it was from doing crunches i strength the tailbone to much. No more pain for like 8 months now i,m riding bike and its hurting again. I don,t know maybe your doing to many situps or crunches.
You probably just bruised it, but since you didn't do anything to it, see a doctor anyway.
