I'm asking this for my husband. Hydrocodone doesn't make him tired. Will oxicodone have the same effect on him

What is the usual mg prescribed? What mg of oxicodone would be the equivalent of 750mg of hydrocodone. He just doesn't want to get knocked out. Please help! His Dr. is out of town.

Oxycodone is made, commercially, from thebaine, a minor component of opium. The 14 hydroxy group increases potency by about 50% over hydrocodone. The 14 cinnamyl ester is 114x morphine in potency.

Please ignore the poster below suggesting 200mg. That is most definately NOT the dosage of opiate, but rather the Asprin/Acetametaphin content of the tablet, just like Vicodin tabs:

As you can see, 750mb tabs come in 7.5mg and 10mg strengths of Hydrocodone

about 200mg should work

There is no way to know how he will react to Percocet aka oxycodone if he has never taken it before. If he needs prescription pain medicine he needs to see a doc and not try taking something that belongs to someone else. There are always docs on call when your doc is out of town and there is also urgent care or ER.

Hydrocodone and oxycodone are two different classes of analgesics. Oxycodone is stronger and requires a prescription each time it is filled. It is considered a narcotic. What are you trying to do, give him some of someone else's medication and you don't know how much? It isn't advisable. I would recommend calling a doctor's office that shares a practice with his personal physician. That way, the doctor can at least get a look at his medical records, because no doctor in the world that values his license would doll out narcotics to someone off the street for no reasons other than "My doctor's out of town."

And P.S. Since he isn't taking much Hydrocodone for pain, the oxycodone would knock him out.

from experience i have taken hydro and oxico neither has made me sleepy the only thing i have had problems with is roxycodone.
but if your oxycodone is generic for Oxycontin there is a chance that it will make him drowsy when he is at rest. if he is taking 7.5 of hydrocodone there is a subscription that is equivalent to that in oxycodone. Percocets come in 5, 7.5 and 10 just like lorecets and loratabs

Oxycodone is stronger than hydrocodone. He would probably be ok with 10 mg. but I suggest calling the Dr office and talking to a nurse to be sure.
