I was off sick from work for 4 working days, my employers are now saying i need a docs note?

Question:
Which would be fine as i can get one as i went to the docs while i was off (Thursday and Friday, then on Monday and yesterday, so a total of 4 working days) but I was under the impression that you didnt need one unless you have been off for 5 working days? I have checked my contract and there is no mention of this....

Answers:
You can self certificate for seven days, thereafter a doctors certificate is required.
If your first day sick was last Thursday (that was day one), by Tuesday it would be day six and today is day seven and your employer will need a certificate from tomorrow.
Your employer will have to give you a self certification form when you return to work.
A doctor will not normally issue a certificate earlier than seven days.
DONT BE BULLIED. GET WELL SOON.
When calculating your days off sick, you count the weekends (even though they are not working days). So you have been off sick for 6 days.

This is for calculation purposes only, you will only have to actually take 4 sick days, and will only get paid for 4 sick days, likewise you will only need a sick note for 4 days!!
I thought the law was clear about sickness. You are entitled to five days with a self cert, after five days your employer may ask you for a sick note, the doctor may charge you for this however you should be able to claim it back from your employer
