Hospital overcharges?

Question:
Hospital charged $5200.00 for outpatient, less than six hours in hospital, have asked twice for itemized bill, never received

Answers:
Keep copies of all your bills and correspondences. Make a few extra copies and get in touch with your State Attorney General...they will want copies of all of this too. I urge you to get the book "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz. She has a section on this precess as well as a whole chapter on how to read your medical bill. I think she even says that by law, the hospital has to provide you with an itemized bill if you request it; however, you need to document when they said that they would promise it by and who this person was...be sure you are talking to someone in the billing department....document, document, document!!!!! And get the book at Barnes and Noble or order it on www.amazon.com....it will help guide you through this process!
Send a letter by certified, return receipt requesting the itemized billing. You are perfectly within your right to request this information. They have 30 days from the date the letter was received in which to send you the billing. If they do not, take your complaint to the hospital administrator. Still no go, contact the American Medical Association.

Good luck!
Hospitals charge whatever the market will bear becuz, by law, they have to take care of everyone regardless of their ability to pay. So, hospital overcharges are just one of the ways the government imposes hidden taxes on the working citizens; you are helping to pay the bills of those who can't or won't pay their bill but came in and got good medical tx anyway. Do we have a great congress or what. ( I vote for what).
