I've been having a pain in the back of my knee, there's no swelling, hurts when going up stairs.?

I fell and landed with the inside of my knee on the floor. Kind of a contortionist landing and not much pain except for the impact. I forgot about it.
Two years later I started using the treadmill and my knee began to hurt. An MRI showed that when I fell, I had torn the medial miniscus (the cushion between tibia and femur-on the inner part of knee) The miniscus doesnt have nerve endings so I didnt feel pain from the tear when I fell. Nor does the miniscus heal.(At the time of the MRI report, I couldnt remember ever hurting my knee, until I thought back).
I went through physical therapy which alleviated most of the pain and lessened the occurences of pain. The part of it that tore away, floats around and occasionally causes pain. I reinjured the same knee and had more PT but now, it will hurt at the end of the day usually if at all, if I use the stairs a lot that day, bicycle etc.
Point is, you could have done something to injure it and passed it off.
Have it checked out with diagnosic tests, xray, MRI etc. If you get regular xrays make sure that it is light enough to see soft tissue as well as dark enough to see bone. (Just tell the tech youre an xray tech and they'll be glad to oblige your request to show the soft tissue, and cross table lateral)o/w theres a lot of ego in that job and requests from patients arent taken well.Theres a sign on the lateral knee view that can, if taken properly, show a sign of trauma. The lateral knee xray should also be taken "cross table" to show any fluid level indicating trauma.
I'm not diagnosing. Just my experience. I'm sure you've been careful to stretch before and after running. Running is very hard on the knees anyway.

Why dont you see a doctor?
i'd suggest u stop running for awhile and when ur sitting stretch ur legs
get it looked at by ultrasound means. An aquaintance of mine found that she has a cyst that has to be removed from the same spot you described. She is also on her feet very often.
it's worth looking into. I'd hate for you to think you had to give up running, so take care of it before it gets too big, if indeed it is a cyst.
Good Luck
avoid sleeping on the bed.. try any flat hard surface or on floor ..keeping ur back straight while sleeping .this will help.
Even i had the same kind of pain but i cured it by applying an ayurvedic medicine called "dukh dava" which may be available at a medical store near you.read the instructions first then buy it and apply.
A man walks into a docor's office, and says "Doc, can you please help me. I've got this big problem and its not going away. Its getting worse, and I don't know what's causing it."
The doc asks "well whats the problem?"
The patient says "well, it really, really hurts in my neck, but only when I turn my head so I'm looking directly behind me, like this ." and looks behind him while keeping his body facing perfectly to the front. "Oww, it hurts so much, doc. What should I do?"
The Doc answers "stop looking behind you like that. Turn your body with your head from now on, and see me in 2 weeks."
Running is a high impact sport that is not recommended by doctors. There are many debilitating health conditions that have been discovered to have been caused soley by doing high impact sport, and many of the conditions disappeared shortly after the sport was suspended. It is likely you have strained a ligament, and a small amount of swelling may appear a few hours after using the damaged area, for a short time.
Try walking, cycling and swimming, stop running and any other high impact sports you do, and see a physiologist for more information.
I had that same problem.
Its a stress fracture
it happens when you use your knee to much in activities.
Just to be sure id see a proffesional in this matter.
the worst that can happen if it is a stress fracture is that you cant use it for a couple of weeks
Posterior cruciate ligamint tear (micro perhaps)
