What is the history of pediactrics?
Question:
Answers:
The specialty is Pediatrics (note spelling). In the 1940s, before WW2, Peds was a sub-branch of general practice (remember GPs?) and internal medicine. There were few pediatricians. There were no medications formulated for children and a lot of time was spent on doing this. There were no Pediatric units in many hospitals. All the equipment and lab procedures were aimed at the adult level. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, a need for a separate specialty was recognized with care, medication, equipment, tests and a general medical approach geared toward children.
