Do You Know What It's Like Not Being Touched??

Question:
Today (Aug 15, 06) I rushed my baby to the ER for something that happened, I don't care to get into. Anyway the nurses were nice they set me and my child up in a room. They asked a couple of questions and told me they had called the doctor (who was on call) and she on her way. Shortly after I see a woman that stood about 5" ft tall, she came in the room and stood near the bed where we were sitting. She (the doc) asked me what happened (just to let you know I had seen her before just on a different occasion). This woman, the Doctor never once touched my son nor did she touch me that day I saw her. What I mean is she never checked his vitals, look down his ears or throat, never touched his skin to see if he felt hot or cold (he was running a fever) absolutely nothing. I don’t know I guess she thought our skin would rub off on her. She then asked did I think he seemed okay and I said "yes", then she said we could be discharged. I was sooo Mad and wanted to cuss her out or say something smart, instead I just left. I mean is that the new practice where doctors basically stand by the door with their nose in the air to consult their patients?? It just reminds me how cruel and prejudice some people still are. My point is have you ever experienced something like this before?

Answers:
i dont have a baby but i agree with u that its weird she didnt touch ur baby at all to see what is the problem.next time,i strongly suggest going to a doctor that WILL touch ur baby and make a better check up for him/her.

I would bring this up with the doctor and if you get no results, take it to the hospital board.
It's worse to have a doctor that seems to touch you too much.
Yes I have ( I am sorry I do not want to get into it) - but i know how you feel and it is a sad thing that is happening in the world.. but it is slowly coming to that. I am sorry you had to experience that.
My God, how awful. I would report her right now. I really mean it-she took an oath to heal and help and she is not living up to it. You are a better person than me-when it comes to my kids i don't play-lol.
I have seen people act rude and unprofessional. I have seen doctors and nurses attempt to treat a patient without fully assessing them. However, I have never seen a physician act overtly prejudice. Although your perspective feels real and may appear to be this way...it is more likely she is just lazy. Afterall, no licensed MD should act this way. Even in the ER. And you said that you had seen and spoken to this doctor before.

It is possible that she felt familiar with your child's problem. Perhaps she has treated his/her problem before. That is giving her a lot of lead way. Maybe she was very rushed as ERs tend to be. It doesn't excuse her poor bedside manner.

I would suggested trying to obtain your healthcare in a more optimal setting like a doctor's office or a clinic. Often, ERs focus on critical patients like heart attacks or car accidents. You may find the personal touch more evident in an outpatient settings.

I apologize for this doctor. She sets a bad example for the rest of us.
