Think about it. If you GIVE them blood, they wouldn't have to pay for it. They would only be expected to pay for it if you were SELLING it to them.

I feel it is a civic duty. Would you only help somebody who is dying because he pays you? Would you like to be treated that way?

I've given blood over 65 times til my health stopped me, and I'm proud to have done my duty.

It is called DONATION!! Just because you donate blood, clothes, food, or anything doesn't mean you get paid for it. Why do people think they chould get paid for everything? The only pay you get for donating blood, is saving someone's life.

Some countries it does. Not in Canada and that sort of protects you from people desparately looking for money for drugs or other unhealthy and desparately poor life styles. In Africa, it might help as an incentive when so many are so poor, but then if you try to sell the blood in turn you still have people who can't afford it, and you cannot help them much then. Money is made from the blood products, but the process and workers need to be payed, so where money comes in. Volunteers are usually better donors then. Some equity would be good between the donor and the final value of the donation, but complex to figure out. So even more despicable when people in administration try to take advantage for their own profit. Disappointing if the guilty can keep their name hidden so they can keep on their dirty work.

I believe that most donation organizations set it up so that when you donate, if you are in need of blood in the future, it will be donated "back" to you.

Check with the individual organization and see if that is their policy.
