My girlfriend keeps nagging me to give blood as I apparently have quite rare blood (AB-) Is she right to?
Question:
Answers:
In britain the abundance of AB- blood is about 3% making it very rare. AB- means that you have blood type AB and are Rhesus Negative. You are known as the universal recipient - you can receive Rhesus negative blood from A, B and O blood groups. Although it is rare to have this blood group, it wont cause you major problems in a life threatening operation.
Giving blood is a personal decision, but I have given blood all my life (except when pregnant) and would say that it is painless and takes about half an hour of your time. You have 9 pints circulating around you, and the Blood Transfusion Service will relieve you of only one pint - and give you a cup of tea and a biscuit! Refrain from hard physical activity for a day or so to allow your body to replace the lost blood cells and then you're back to normal.
I do it because one day I or my family and friends may need blood, and if we rely on everyone else to do it, there might not be enough to go round.

It's up to you. It's your blood after all, unless some stinking midges or mosquitos try to steal it...
on the spot and do look after your girlfriend cause she has a heart of gold
tell her to **** off and stop nagging
Just do it, you will be saving someones life if you do... and she will shut up :)
I think you can give it with notice that the blood is reserve for you. Good idea. Also, maybe it is a way for her to find out that you are not HIV+?
it is up to you. it is clearly something she feels strongly about - maybe there is a reason for this.
if you don't want to, and you have a good reason to not want to give blood, then ask her (nicely) to stop nagging.
if there is one thing I have learnt about nagging it is that it really makes me not want to see the person that is nagging me!
she can ask but not keep on tho but wont hurt you tho to give blood
definitely, she sounds to be a very kind and considerate girlto be thinking of others
Please do Im AB- and had an accident once and needed a transfusion but had to wait almost 2hrs for them to helicopter some in for me. so at every opportunity I give blood.
Tis one of the least common but people with O can donate to anyone, universal donor (i think could be AB+, not sure) so don't worry to much.
It is a good and generous thing to donate blood regardless but it is up to the individual. I have A negative blood but have been told that rare blood is not needed as often. O being a universal blood is the most required. It is really your own personal discussion.
Its your choice, but she is right about your blood group, I am AB- and it is meant to be sort of rare. :O)
Well, it's a good deed. Besides, as the blood is rare... you may need to have some blood restored at some point - and if you donate blood, there may be just that one bank of blood available...
But, in the end, it's your body, your blood - she may nag, but she cannot force you to do it. The decision is all up to you.
Your blood group is one of the rarest so your blood is needed by other people on death's door everyday due to unforeseen accidents etc. possible caused by people of common blood groups such as your girlfriends.
Are you asking whether the nagging is right or the donation?
Yup, you blood is indeed precious to the hospital. Imagine during an accident a casualty is brought to the Hospital and on him the paramedics found no identity documents to determine his blood group. He is sent to the hospital and is bleeding profusely.
There comes your bolld, the universal donor blood, which could be used by anyone and there, YOU indirectly saved him...
Hope this touches you!
What do you tell a girl with two black eyes....Nothing you already told her twice.
Muwahhh just kidding
If it's rare blood, all the more you should donate it, because it is in greater demand and will most definitely save someone's life. Moreover, you'll be doing a gd deed.
yeah you should do it cause one blood donation can save 3 lives you can give blood donations 6 times a year
I am AB- and there are only 3% of the popluation in England with this blood type! It is one of the rarest.
So yes, please give blood in case I need some...
At the end of the day you can decide for yourself. BUT think about what would happen if YOU needed a blood transfusion. Without blood donors, there would be more deaths and, as you have a rare blood group, it is vital the stocks of blood are maintained.
I've been donating blood for 26 years and have never had a bad experience. If you're afraid to give blood, go and tell them you're nervous, they're very understanding and will make it as easy as possible for you.
Tell your girlfriend to stop nagging though!
Nagging is never good, but she is right - your blood type is rare, but giving blood is up to you.
She should not nag you about anything. There is always a small amount of risk when donating blood.
I have, however, seen a report that there may be a benefit for men to donate blood. Iron builds up, and may be a cause of health problems in later life. Donating blood regularly helps to get rid of some iron and lessen the risk of health problems down the road.
Since you have a rare blood type, consider making it known to your local blood bank. If a dire emergency comes up, they can then call on you for help. I am a firm believer that, as Jesus said: "It is more blessed to give than receive." You might be helping yourself and you would certainly be helping someone who needs the help.
Rare or Not, Giving blood is always Good, as you are saving someones life
absolutely ! go save a life...................
It won't kill you to give blood. It may kill some one if you don't...just a thought
Yes, she is right.
I give blood occasionally (O-), but once someone came around the office asking if anyone had your blood type, no-one did.
They had been contacting everyone they could think of.
His mate's girlfriend died the next day, she was in a car accident.
This happens to people with your blood type, that means you as well, your blood might just go back into you.
