Is it better for your general health (not just dieting) if you eat your main meal at midday?

yes it is!
your body has more high metabolic "waking hour" to digest the food and you are also less likely to get thing like indigestion and heartburn at night. Also, your body has more fuel to function more efficiently during the day and you are more mentally alert
I would say yes, I believe we should start of with breakfast being your main meal, then slightly less for lunch and a light dinner, try to avoid starchy/sweet foods in the evening especially! Our bodies struggle to deal with a large amount of food later on in the day (but it also depends on your lifestyle, if you are a night owl, go clubbing/dancing then you'll burn it off)
