Do band-aids really help? Or is it better to just clean the wound and not cover it with anything?

Question:

Answers:
If you are going to be up and about it is better to cover the wound after cleaning it to avoid infection. Take the bandaides off at night, if the wound is not bleeding and let it air out then.

Other Answers:
bandages keep a sterile dressing on the wound to help prevent more airborne infectious agents from contacting the damaged area.
depends on how deep/big the wound is...if its a bad wound then you need to protect it...if its not that bad then don't worry about it
band-aids help keep junk out and it does a little bit of absorption, but it depends on the wound, if it's for a child and it makes them feel better, then it won't do any harm... just use your best judgment.
In the news today, there was information regarding this question. It is preferable to clean the wound, and cover it wit h a bandaid or gauze, keeping the area closed off from air, and also allowing it to be slightly moist
While a bandage (if sterile to begin with) does not stay sterile too long after it is taken out of its package, it does cover the wound, preventing some bacteria and germs in the air from getting in the wound. Additionally, when a band-aid is applied correctly, it puts slight pressure on the wound, and can actually stop the bleeding. They also provide very minimal movement restriction, which keeps the clotting process from being interrupted from the wound being reopened. So yes, they help.
