What can cause a high fever and an elevated heart rate in a person?

Question:
My friend is in the hospital with these symptoms. Male, 37 years old.

Answers:
Usually a bacteria infection of some sort. But heat stroke can have the same effect. When an infection occurs and someone is febrile this causes the heart rate to elevate. This is the bodies natural response because it helps to trigger the immune system and will cause more WBC or white blood cells to enter in the body. These WBC will help search out the infection and try to kill it off. If your friend has been outside working out or just working hard then he could have a Heat related injury such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke. There are many pieces to the puzzle of why are vital signs are out of whack. Coming up with a quick and definite answer without other information such as Blood Pressure, medical History, State of Consciousness, Lab tests, pain factors and a physical assessment is something people with limited medical education would do.
So let the doctors do there assessment and research it takes time, but saying that it's an infection when in fact it was a heat illness could be detrimental to a persons well being. So please be take the answers that are generated as helpful, but not also right or accurate.
