Okay, say you're watching Television aaand, you take in a breath and instead of the fufilling sensation of fresh air into your bloodstream, you are met with a sharp and stabbing pain in your ribcage that keeps you from finishing that breath of air and thus leaves your lungs only half-full and discomforting.

Answers:
Broken, cracked, or bruised ribs.
If you are a smoker then the pain you are feeling when trying to take a deep breath is caused from pleurisy. It is when the tiny vessels in your lungs become inflamed. If you are not a smoker then it is probably still the same condition but it is caused by a small infection that your body will heal on its own.
