How can I stop sleeping on my stomach?

Question:
Yeah, I know the obvious answer would be "Just don't do it", but it's not easy. I can't sleep on my back! I just can't make myself go to sleep like that. I try to go to sleep on my side, and I always roll in my sleep, and end up on my stomach, and every morning I wake up with back pain. Any tips?

Answers:
cellotape some tennis balls to your stomach!
sleep on your side by supportign your self with pillows and slowly ween yourslef off of them
try sleeping on your side holding a small pillow
hug a pillow or something while you sleep.
Sleep with a big body pillow beside you when you're on your side. It will keep you from rolling over so easily. Good luck!
uh, try sleeping on your back.
Gradually start using pillows to roll you over.
OMG! I have the same problem, im always sleeping on my stomach. its seems to either be a happbit or the only way i can get comfortable. I have noticed i have been having some back pains, espiacly when i bend down. sorry this doesn't answer your question, but atleast you know your not the only one! :)
tie yourself to your bed for a couple of nites and your body well get use to it
try getting more pillows near your feet and back. start out by doing that and see if your back feels better. if you want to sleep in your back then sleep on your side and slowley start to get frther over, personally i thin your side is the most comfortable
I feel your pain since i use to do the same thing, try a new bed, one that would be more comfortable for your back.
put your bed up agaisnt the wall then get a huge body pillow and put that on the other side. so then your being supported!i kick around a role in my sleep so my bf got me a huge body pillow so he can be on one side and the pillow on the other cuz are bed is not by a wall
Make sure your tired before you get into bed. Even if its past your bedtime do not goto bed if your not tired. Maybe you need a new bed, or try putting a pillow between your legs.
Wow it took me to get pregnant to force myself not to sleep on my belly. Now I don't get good sleep cause it feels weird. Try sleeping with a fluffy pillow between your legs while on your side. That helped me out alot. It's comfortable.
Use some body pillows. Brace the bed against the wall and use the wall as stabilizing the pillows into position. Other than that, the only other thing I can think of is to tie a wrist or ankle to the bed post and see if that helps, but be careful you don't hurt the circulation.

Best to you!
Oh man I really know where you are coming from. I have osteoarthritis of the lower back, hips and spine. Like you I start off sleeping every night on my side, I too can't sleep on my back as I snore all night. Every morning I wake up on my stomach. I ALWAYS sleep good on my stomach but my back is in a lot of pain if I do. If you find out a way how to stop I will HAVE to try it too.
I went through this also. Get a ace bandage and a few towels.. Roll up the towels and strap them to your gut with the ace.. and u wont sleep on your gut no more.. Give it a week and your in there! Good luck!
The attitude is the problem if you say you can't sleep on your back then you won't be able to. Put a pillow on each of your sides to prevent you from turning subconsciously. You will most likely have trouble making yourself sleep on your back, but it will eventually happen.
Sleeping on my side with a pillow between my legs really helped my back pain. I know it sounds silly, but it's been proven to work, see this link.
what"s the problem with sleeping on the stomach, it that's your bag ,you ain;'t hurting nobody
Pillows!

To break the habit of sleeping on your tummy, you could either put a pillow in front of you while sleeping on your side (hold onto the pillow as you fall asleep), or get a body pillow you won't have to hold onto. If you end up turning over in the other direction in your sleep and still wake up on your tummy, then just put another pillow behind your back as well as the one in front.

Sleeping on your side can give you back pain of another kind tho, so to eliminate that, sleep with a pillow between your knees.

That's a lot of pillows, lol, but after you re-train yourself to sleep on your side, you'll probably only use the pillow between your knees after that. When sleeping on your side, just imagine ways to keep your spine in one straight line, then you won't have any pain.

That also means having a good sturdy pillow for your head, so it's straight with your spine too. There are special pillows for your head and for your knees, you could try those if you want. Otherwise just make sure the one for your head isn't too soft (can make your head pull your spine down), or too bunchy (can make your head pull your spine up).

Do these things and you'll be snoozing in total comfort, and waking without any pain. :)
