Why do most African Americans believe that they don't have to wear sunblock/sunscr.

Question:
African Americans need to wear sunscreen just as other people do. A trained gnecologist will even say that they need sunscreen or else they will suffer sun cancers just as the whites and the hispanics do if you don't wear sun protection. My husband and his side of the family don't wear sunscreen and it drives me crazy sometimes when I ask my husband to please put some on; he complains.

Answers:
Because of their skin color. I know that everyone needs to put on some sun screen. Just because your skin is dark doesn't mean you are protected form UV rays.

Other Answers:
Yes, believe it or not, it doesn't matter what color your skin is as far as skin cancer goes. As a matter of fact, many new cases in the town where I live are Native Americans. My dermatologist told me many people believe that myth.
