what is bilateral coxa valga, with slight uncovering of the lateral aspects of the femoral heads.?
Question:
Answers:
Coxa valga refers to a condition where the "neck" of the femur is angled further away from the shaft of the fermur than normally. We are all born with an angle around 150 degrees, but as we begin to walk, the angle decrease to the normal value around 120 degrees. In a child, therefore, some degree of coxa valga is normal. If the angle does not begin to decrease as the child begins to walk, it produces significant stress on the hip joint and can lead to arthritic type conditions and in severe cases, dislocation. It's many times associated with some other neurological anomaly such as cerebal palsy.
