if you are talking about the test to see how your sugar has been for the last 6-8 wks. it's a glycohemoglobin, a1c test, not sure of spelling, tells your average blood sugar, pretty accurate, they draw blood from your arm, not as bad as it sounds, been doing it for years, yes it does involve a needld, get over it, it's for your health , take care of yourself, good luck
I think they test for C-peptide which is part of the larger molecule that insulin comes from. They can also test how much of your haemoglobin is glycated, a lower figure is better.
